Outreach services

By focusing on areas of need and tailoring services specifically to the community, MNP’s outreach services have played a vital role in creating a healthier, happier, and more resilient Mooncrest community.

Collaboration between local organizations, Moon Township and Mooncrest neighbors has helped to develop outreach that has made the community more inclusive and welcoming to all members.  While MNP is proud of the programs and services that it offers, we are committed to growing in response to the needs of our neighbors.

Addressing Basic Needs:

  • Food Security: Programs like the Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank, West Hills and Coraopolis Food Pantries and our community gardens help to combat and improve access to nutritious food.
  • Healthcare Access: Working with Squirrel Hill Health Center, various mobile clinics, and healthcare organizations has made medical more accessible and helped to bridge the gap for those lacking access to traditional healthcare.

Empowering Individuals and Families:

  • Education and Job Training: MNP partners with Literacy Pittsburgh to provide adult education programs that include job training, skill development, and GED preparation to empower individuals to achieve economic self-sufficiency.
  • Adult Education and ESL Classes: These programs equip adults with the literacy and language skills needed to fully participate in society.
  • Mentorship Programs: Connecting young people with positive role models can provide guidance and support, foster academic success and enhance personal growth. Through program partners like Open Field (soccer), West Hills Youth Rugby, and Carnegie Mellon University STEM Ambassadors, MNP provides opportunities for young people to be seen and inspired.

Building Strong Communities:

  • Community Gardens: Using space at OLSH and around the Sr. Rene Procopio Activity Center, program participants grow and share a variety of produce.  Our summer camp’s curriculum is garden-based and promotes healthy eating, physical activity, environmental awareness and community pride.
  • Neighborhood Cleanups: Program participants engage in cleanup activities to not only beautify the environment but also to encourage civic engagement and a sense of shared responsibility.
  • Youth Programs: The after-school program and summer camp activities along with community partner programs provide safe spaces for young people to learn, grow, and connect with their peers.
