Summer Program

For students in grades 1 through 7, the Summer program is a follow-up to the Mooncrest After School Program. Throughout the summer, the children participate in a variety of camp programs and activities.

Mooncrest Neighborhood Programs (MNP) maintains a small community garden in areas surrounding the Sr. Rene Procopio Activity Center.  Spread throughout raised beds, tower planters and edible landscaping, is a variety of fruits and vegetables that the children plant, water and harvest each season.  Garden activities give children an opportunity to explore and respect nature, and provides the added benefit of nutritious produce to take home and share with families.

MNP also collaborates with its many partner organizations to provide education and enrichment throughout the summer months.  Sports programs like rugby and soccer are part of a 'healthy play' plan for camp, and reading and math support are integral to the daily routine.  MNP further nourishes body and soul with STEM challenges and workshops that exercise young minds and art, theater and mindfulness experiences for the soul.  Additionally, all camp activities include lessons in team-building, respect and kindness as well as being fun!

Another component of summer programming for children is the Youth Cafe sponsored by the Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank.

Free USDA summer lunch is available weekdays at Mooncrest Neighborhood Programs for all children through age 18.
